“With good thoughts, good deeds, and good wishes” your life will be beautiful says Swami Sivananda in this absolutely wonderful short film documenting his philosophy and yogic lifestyle. He joyfully claims yoga is the key to his long, healthy, and happy life. “If you live a well-disciplined life, a well-regulated life, then you will enjoy a long life.”

We search for happiness in people, positions, and achievements, and we suffer due to the fleeting nature of attaining all these things. Swami Sivananda has found peace and true happiness within himself. “No desire, no disease, no depression” are the three keys to the equanimity and joy that yoga brings him.

He also has a simple vegetarian diet and spends many hours each day reading scriptures. It is deeply inspiring to see this 123-year old’s energy, strength, and will to perform his daily hatha yoga practice. His only goal is to attain Moksha and attain “freedom from the cycle of birth and death.”

He was born in 1896, has lived through three centuries, and has traveled to dozens of countries to promote yoga. He has yet to be certified by the Guinness World Records to have the world record of oldest man alive, but India’s passport authorities confirmed Sivananda’s age from a temple register, which was the main documentation of birth at that time.

The 10-minute video is beautifully filmed and produced to highlight the magic of India and the charm of this sweet yogi. Watch the video below and let us know if you think this is indeed the happiest man alive.
